http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/ FOR TODAY: June 29, 2009 Outside My Window . . . a clear blue sky and morning sunlight -- its supposed to be a lovely day! I am thinking . . . about my grandparents. Today is their 52nd wedding anniversary. I am thankful for . . . morning walks. I'm totally guilty of wishing I never had to go back and start the day. From the kitchen . . . no food. I keep trying to last till July before I go to the grocery store, but I'm thinkin' this is close enough. I am wearing . . . exercise clothes I am creating . . . a baby I am going . . . to have a headache today, I can already feel it coming. I am reading . . . Between Parent and Child, by Haim G. Ginott I am hoping . . . that this is a better week than last. I am hearing . . . Turtle getting dressed --that child never would if I didn't refuse her breakfast until she is -- and Rosebud "shhing" her dolly Around the house . . . laundry day, need I say more? One of my f...

Happy Father's Day, Dad

Image
Four years ago, Father's Day was the day after my wedding. I remember calling you from the airport before our flight to Colorado to say I loved you. You didn't expect it and that made me happy that I had called. The day before, my wedding day, hadn't just been a day about my new husband and I, it had been a day also about you and I. A father and a daughter. I remember turning to you before we walked down the aisle, to say something, anything, to try and express what this moment meant to me. But I couldn't get the words out, and you, you smiled and shook your head. Tears were too close to the surface for both of us. I remember the toast you gave, your voice so clear and manly, only wavering a little, especially as you spoke of your hero, our Papa, John Paul II, then only two months gone, and what he had taught you and shown you about love. I remember our dance, to Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight. It was sweet and loving and fun. You were such a smoot...

SO Thankful

Turtle has a new dolly. She had one before, the old one that was my mother's and then mine. She loved her for a little while. But then, Rosebud got a new one for her first birthday. A beautiful one with a soft body and delicate coloring. For six months, Turtle has been in love with that dolly. She has negotiated, stolen, snatched, pleaded and distracted Rosebud all to get to play with this dolly. When I asked her why she didn't play with her own doll she said, "She doesn't wiggle-waggle. I can't snuggle her." As Rosebud has gotten older it has become harder for Turtle, as Rosebud is always snatching/screaming/trying to get the doll back. Mommy has done alot of talking with Turtle about the "first dibs" right of ownership and the difficulty of sharing and only having short turns. So, yesterday, Turtle finally got her feast day present, for the feast of her middle name saint that we missed while we were on vacation. It was a "wiggle-waggl...

Small Successes #8

Image
I've been looking forward to thinking of my small successes this week. It's such a good thing to do when you feel as if all you've done or haven't been able to do are failures. 1. I actually made dinner for tonight, for the first time this week. I put it in the crockpot this morning. I'm thinking that I'd better cook dinner like this for the rest of this trimester as I have the hardest time with it once it gets past 4 or 5pm. ************** 2. I've taken every opportunity to apologize to my girls this week for how tired and short-tempered I've been, with them and with everything. Pregnancy is hard, but that's not their fault! :) ******************* 3. Today I wrote the final check for our hospital debt left over from Rosebud's birth 18 months ago. Finally. Of course soon we have to start all over again, but it feels good to be rid of that anyway! Come read more Small Successes at Faith and Family Live .

http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/ FOR TODAY: June 15, 2009 Outside My Window . . . a blue sky, crossed by seven power lines. I am thinking . . . that I wish I had a clothesline to hang laundry out on. I love hanging out clothes. There's something calming and rhythmic about it. But there's not even a place to put one up in our back yard. I am thankful for . . . sunshine and summertime! From the kitchen . . . the remains of breakfast and lunch. I made lunch directly after breakfast to bring to the pool today and, well, we left before it was cleaned up . . . I am wearing . . . my bathing suit still. Changing is a pain. I am creating . . . a baby and the tiniest little beginning of a tummy (not like I don't have one left over from other babies, but it's starting to get firmer, like its supposed to be there and not just fat, you know?) I am going . . . to go have some crackers and cheese. :) I am reading . . . Between Parent and Child, a parenting book that...

NFP Articles

I read this article, published in the Homiletic and Pastoral Review, for the first time today, (though I had bookmarked it a long time ago!) and I found it very interesting and informative. I thought I would post it in case it was of interest to anyone else. Humanae Vitae: Grave Motives to Use a Good Translation, by Angela Bonilla I was also reminded, while reading the above, of another good article by Janet Smith that I read soon after my marriage that helped in the (on-going) formation of my understanding of Natural Family Planning. Moral Use of Natural Family Planning, by Janet Smith, in Why Humanae Vitae was Right, A Reader (Incidentally, this article is where I found the "Family is a Community" quote from Love & Responsibility that says that three or more children is what it takes to be a "community". So, I guess, according to John Paul II, we will officially be a real, true family/community in January when we have three children! :))
