Facts of Life

Turtle has been asking questions off and on about this baby, about umbilical cords and being naked inside mommy, what the baby is eating or liking to eat in there, about when Turtle and Rosebud were in "mommy's tummy" too. She likes to feel the baby move and talk about nursing and what babies wear. Several times she has asked me how the baby will come out. The first time I was rather at a loss, saying something like "Ummmmm . . ." Subsequent times I have done what my sister-in-law recommended and asked her right back, "How IS the baby going to come out, Turtle?" She seems to have the general idea that the doctor will "crack open" my stomach and get the baby out. (I hope not! :) And then I just say, "Is that right? Ohh!" or something similar. Yesterday she was explaining to me where Daddy lived when he was a little boy (his first home in this state is not far from us) and that when Mommy was a girl, she lived at Nana and Pop-...

I kind of think I am bigger than last time? I was complaining the other day to my mom about all the comments I get about how big I am and *gasp* the baby isn't due till January? She laughed and said, "You're just like me. People would ask me if I was having twins." Well, I'm glad I haven't got that one yet! It's tiring sometimes, when everyone (women and men) feels the need to ooh and ahh or comment and gasp, inquire if its my first, comment on child spacing or my size or ask the baby's gender . . . Every baby born is a sign of hope for the world and so I try to be okay if they look and comment, even if it is insensitive sometimes. The world is starved for babies and it's good if I share mine with them for a little bit.

Pregnancy Craving

When your husband comes home to the office at 1:30pm, you offer him lunch, of course. He says No, thank you. You wonder why. And then you smell it, the smell of your favorite restaurant, the one which has the food you have been fantasizing about for days, maybe weeks, without obtaining any of its sigh-inducing, peace-and-heaven-bringing goodness. The smell is on his clothes. You pull back from his arms and ask suspiciously , "Did you go to Chipotle ?" He smiles sheepishly and says, "Yes." (Of course. Your nose already told you that.) Then you ask the other question, the one you really want to know the answer to: "Did you bring me anything?" "No." "You what?? You didn't bring me anything? You went to Chipotle , at lunchtime , when you knew you were coming home afterwards, and you didn't bring me anything? " "Well . . . " he is very sheepish now " Uhh . . . I thought you might have already eaten . . . or something ...

My Girls' New Favorite Song

They heard it one day on the radio and they were hooked immediately. :) Rosebud asks for "I Wuv Woo, peez?" and goes around singing "Hey mom-mom, Hey mom-mom." Turtle at one point was puzzled and said to me, "Mommy, mans don't say 'mama'!"

All Souls' Day

Prayer to Our Suffering Savior for the Holy Souls in Purgatory O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on these Blessed Souls. Have mercy on them. R. Have mercy on them, O Lord. O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during Thy most cruel scourging, have mercy on them. R. Have mercy on them, O Lord. O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most painful crowning with thorns, have mercy on them. R. Have mercy on them, O Lord. O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in carrying Thy cross to Calvary, have mercy on them. R. Have mercy on them, O Lord. O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during Thy most cruel Crucifixion, have mercy on them. R. Have mercy on them, O Lord. O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer in Thy most bitter agony on the Cross, have mercy on them. R. Have mercy on them, O Lord. O m...

Seven Quick Takes, vol 4

#1. I had a baby appointment this week -- which I rather enjoy when I don't have to bring my kids. My sister-in-law kindly watched the girls for me -- which meant she had seven kids 4 and under on her hands for over two hours! She's amazing. Anyway, the baby is already head down like a good baby should be. :) I had my glucose blood test while I was there and I was so excited that the midwives let me drink 50g worth of glucose from regular orange juice, not that nasty artificially-flavored "grape" or "orange" soda I've had to gag down with the two other pregnancies. I scheduled all my other appointments up through 41 weeks and it was kind of surreal to think how soon that time will be here! #2. Every fall since we've had Turtle we've taken a family trip to a beautiful historical area about 1+ hrs from us. We haven't gone yet this year because the weekends have been rainy. And now this weekend's weather is looking bad too. Rain is possible ...
