M.T., If you want to secretly "off" the hamster, as they say in Mafia-speak, just use cedar shavings for the bedding. Many tears were shed as a child because of my ignorance of that fact.
I definitely will be considering this at 4 am when I can't sleep because the darn animal is clacking her wheel NON-STOP. But, alas, the three other ppl in my family are VERY attached to this little thing . . . so it sure would have to be secret!
